The Junba Project
The Junba Project was created to support community-led initiatives to revive and sustain
Junba dance-song in Wanjina Wunggurr communities. The project began in 2009 through
a partnership between elder songman and composer Scotty Nyalgodi Martin (dec.), Sally
Treloyn, the Mowanjum Art and Culture Centre and the Kimberley Aboriginal Law and
Culture Centre. The Junba Project is led by elders and leaders of Junba, and would not be possible without
their expertise, knowledge, and commitment to teaching. The project today is also driven by
young Worrorra, Wunambal and Ngarinyin leaders who have emerged as expert dancers,
singers and teachers, and young cultural custodians.
